Rejoicing in Heaven
Luke 15:11-32 | August 13, 2023 | Pastor Justin Bebb “Rejoicing in Heaven” 1. Context: the Pharisees rejected Jesus welcoming sinners. (15:1-2) 2. The younger son obviously needs to repent: a. He wanted his father’s money and wished he was dead. (15:11-12) b. He wasted all of his inheritance and lived like a sinner. (15:13-16) 3. The younger son realized his need of repentance: a. He wanted to confess his sin against God and his father. (15:17-19) 4. The father graciously welcomed the repentant son back into his family. (15:20-24) 5. The older son also needed to repent: a. But he did not see it and rejected his father’s gracious welcome. (15:25-28) b. He rejected the father’s grace and held to his self-righteousness. (15:29-32)
